Saturday Sun Salutation Class

This series of classes focuses on the practice of sun salutation postures in the tradition of hatha (sun and moon) yoga.

The classes are slow and careful leading to the gradual cultivation of strength, alignment of the muscular and skeletal systems, freedom in the breath and vitality in body and mind.

The classes are suitable for all levels from complete beginners to more advanced students who want to explore the full potential of each step of the sequence of poses that together create the transformational potential of sun salutations.

The classes also Incorporate meditation, breath work and an introduction to Qi Gong (energy cultivation practices), which compliments the regenerative power of the sun salutation practice. With a regular practice, there is a feeling of coming back to life as mind, breath, body and life force (Qi) come into alignment.

This next six-week mediation courses explores Ujjayi breathing, or "victorious breath." 

Gillian is a patient and caring yoga teacher. She knows it is not easy to arrive at a practice of seated meditation. It is often the most challenging and rewarding aspect of a yoga enquiry. Gradually over six weeks, she will guide students towards a sustainable and enjoyable mediation practice that will become a life-long resource.  

Ujjayi breathing, or "victorious breath," is a yoga technique that involves lightly constricting the back of the throat to create a soft, oceanic sound as you breathe through the nose.

This is a calming yet energizing practice, often called “ocean breath” which synchronizes breath with movement, helps focus the mind, reduces stress, and promotes relaxation by activating the body's rest-and-relax system. 

This is a powerful meditation technique that cultivates patience, confidence, strength and vitality - ideal for the transition to autumn and winter seasons. 

For those wanting to support their sun salutation practice with a meditation technique, this is an ideal class.

Friday Spinal Release Class

Get ready for the week – a perfect way to unwind and prepare for the start of the week.

The spinal release practice combines breath work with deep relaxation in a slow and careful sequence of postures designed to release tension in the whole body. The practice brings relief to aching backs, shoulders and neck and restores the nervous system to a state of equilibrium, creating the conditions for the natural healing potential of the body to unfold.

There is nothing like the state of peace and calm that arises from the spinal release practice and the cumulation of this class on a daily basis is transformational for everyone but especially those students who suffer from chronic physical or emotional tension and/or insomnia.

This series of classes are for men only.

This is to overcome the perception that yoga is for women and that to practice yoga you have to be wearing the ‘right’, fashionable yoga kit on an already fit and flexible, slim and strong feminine body.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

The classes focus on the practice of sun salutation postures in the tradition of hatha (sun and moon) yoga.

IN PERSON IN LONDON AT GILLIAN’S PRIVATE PRACTICE SPACE OR HOME VISIT ON REQUEST

£60 per hour (appointments of two hours are usual)

Do you feel that there is a particular issue coming up in your life, or in your yoga or meditation practice that you would like to begin to explore in a one-to-one session? Or perhaps you would like to begin to develop your own home practice and would like some advice about how to craft your sequence or routine. 

One-to-one sessions make possible a careful enquiry into the knowledge that is to be gained from the limitations, frustrations, injuries, particular areas of resistance, or curiosity that arise as your practice and life evolves over time.

Join Gillian at the Honour Oak Wellness Rooms for a 90 minute spinal release class. We move slowly through a range of breath work exercises and spinal rotations to gradually regulate the nervous system, create a state of deep relaxation, and bring about a health-promoting state of balance and ease over time.

We work in a small group setting in the lovely cosy loft studio at Honor Oak Wellness Rooms, with only five people in each class, which makes possible a precious opportunity to benefit from individual attention.
